Ah, summertime in Chicago! It’s hard to believe that August is already here. It’s one of our favorite months of the year, and it always brings memories of beach days, warm nights, beautiful sunsets, and the peaceful drone of cicadas. While the pandemic is not completely over, things do look much better for live events than they did a year ago. With additional precautions and a bit of uncertainty about the future of this virus, we’re able to carefully make a transition back to normalcy. We’re all hoping that this August will feel more normal than the last.
One thing is for certain though, it will be over before we know it. We’re hoping that you’ll be able to take some time away from the grind and soak it in. Here are some of the things we’re looking forward to in hopes to make the month of August a memorable one!
Dave Attell has always been one of my favorite comedians, and I’m really looking forward to seeing him live! Jeff Ross and Dave have a great rapport together, so it should be a great show!
It’s been way too long since I’ve gone to a show, and this might be my first of the year. For me, Rise Against is always a nostalgia bomb of the early 2000’s, however I’m most excited for Descendents and The Menzingers!
I’ve missed the previous Sundays on State this summer but I’m not going to miss one more! The Chicago Loop Alliance know’s how to throw a party and if their Elevate series is any indication of what to expect, their Sundays on State series will be a fun way to spend a sunny Sunday Afternoon.
I’m a sucker for music in the park, theatre in the park, hell, I’m a sucker for parks. An afternoon on a blanket with my family, ice cold Rosas for the grownups, paletas for the kids, and then add Goodman Theatre and Sones de México Ensemble’s performance of Zulema, I’m in heaven.
With October right around the corner, I’m excited to get a head start on the Halloween season by checking out the outdoor screening of the original “Creature from the Black Lagoon.” Catch it on August (Friday the) 13th in Holstein Park, hosted by the Chicago Park District as part of their Movies in the Park summer series.
Now that shows are happening again, I can’t help but plug my friend’s band, Cool Heat, who will be performing at the Burlington in Logan Square on Friday, August 27th. To make the evening a hair more fun, yours truly will be filling in on the bass.
Drop us a line and tell us about some Chicago shows and events you’re looking forward to!
