Postcards have withstood the test of time as one of the best tools to promote your business, event, or send through the mail. The word "postcard" is now used synonymously with handbills, flyers, rack cards, mailers, palm cards, etc.
Postcards are traditionally 4 x 6, or 4 inches tall and 6 inches wide and printed on a medium weight paper stock. However, postcard mailing and printing now includes many standard size formats including 3 x 5, 5 x 7, 5.5 x 8.5, and 6 x 9.
Are you going to be mailing your postcards? Consider making them larger than 4 x 6 so they avoid getting lost and stand out in mailboxes. Also, don’t forget to include the space along the bottom edge to include the little mailing UPC.
Is your artwork one-sided? Don’t waste the other side! The additional cost to print double-sided is fractional. Include lines for an address, and a box in the corner for a stamp. A one sided postcard can come off looking cheap!
Does your postcard include beautiful, lush photos or graphics? If it does, go with a bigger size! Show off your imagery and the investment you made in developing your piece.
